Tuesday's Teaser: Doubling Down

Since there were no winners last week, we're sticking with the same problem and doubling the extra credit points. Ten points can be had--equal to one test question-- for this really not to difficult question.  Once again....

Three consecutive numbers add up to 105 if the first number is multiplied by one, the second number is multiplied by two, and the third number is multiplied by three. What are the three consecutive numbers?

Answers, by Friday, with step-by-step notes, emailed or in person, before you hit the streets with your pillow case and power ranger costume.

Tuesday's (Belated) Teaser

Here she is:

Three consecutive numbers add up to 105 if the first number is multiplied by one, the second number is multiplied by two, and the third number is multiplied by three. What are the three consecutive numbers?

This is almost too easy to qualify as a teaser. Take advantage of this very solvable problem.

E-mail or submit solution with work attached before the end of the day named after Freya, the Norse goddess of love, beauty and fertility. If correct, 10 extra credit points are yours.

Toosday's Teeser!

Bonus Points for every correct answer emailed!!!!

Did he say what I thought he said?  Shocking, yes, but everyone who emails the correct answer before school on Friday receives 5 bonus points.
Simplify: 4 - 4 x 4 + 4 x 4 - 4 x 4/4

That's it. Good Luck.

(Rachelle, thanks for the reminder)

What's Next for Algebra I Students

We're getting close to wrapping up our unit on equations, although we will be practicing and using them all year. So what's after that, you ask? These topics:

Opposites & Reciprocals

The Real Number System

Absolute Value, Including Equations

Number Properties

Algebraic Proofs

Inequalities

The Coordinate Plane

This should get us well into the 2nd quarter.  Now you know.....

Literal Equations Test Results

If you can't find your code, it's because:
a)  you were absent (8)
b)  you did not put a code on your test (5)
c) you put someone else's code on your test. (2)
                                      But, for everyone else........

Watch Tonight's 'Blood Moon', Total Lunar Eclipse

Tonight's total lunar eclipse is an event that happens once every 4-5 years. (Next Total lunar eclipse? July 28, 2018)

Beginning at 6:17 pm., the Earth will start passing between the Sun and the Moon.  From 8:27-8:55, the moon will be in total eclipse and turn a deep red color, 'the blood moon'.

After  8:55, the Moon will slowly come out of the shadows until 11:30 pm. which marks the end of the eclipse.  The moon will be in the west, and should be easy to see if the clouds cooperate.

Unless something changes, we will have classes tomorrow, (Thursday).  Enjoy the show!

The numbers must be in order, from the smallest to the largest.

Good Luck!

Sadly.....

No School Tuesday!!!

Tuesday's Teaser Double Bonus Results

Congratulations to the 'X' man, as he was the only person to submit a correct answer to last week's teaser.  For that, he received 10 extra credit points. (Worth a free test question) Here it is again:

You could leave the fractions like they are and just deal with them.  But you could also multiply each term by the LCD, which is.......Right! 24.  Clear the fractions and complete a very simplified version of the original.  When you are finished, you should have what the X man had, which is
        x =  16.

Too easy not to try.  Look for this week's teaser on Tuesday.

Monday's Forecast: Wet, Not Too Windy

Just playing weatherman, but looking at the satellite photo, this shouldn't be much of a typhoon (tropical storm, actually). Take a look.  What think you?

Also, lot's of trouble solving those pesky equations with variables on both sides.  We will review Tuesday, and you will want to learn them as they represent about half of our test on Wednesday.
False alarm, folks.  But once again, we'll take it!!!!

Class Summary: October 3, 2014

We begin with some number sense to check our awareness of the numbers around us. Then we get serious about next week's test and this week's Khan Academy topics.  Check the 'show for more information. Our class work is a continuation of yesterday's and is found here.

Class Summary: October 2, 2014

We pick up where we left off yesterday. We add other equations to our study of literal equations as we prepare for next Wednesday's test. Today's homework looks very much like our test, so make sure you can answer all the questions.  When you are not sure, ask at least 3 of your classmates, before asking me.  Our class work is here.

Class Summary: September 30, 2014

Today we focus on Literal Equations. They will be the main focus of our next test, so you'll want to learn them well. The slideshow has some important tips and rules for solving these equations.  Take a look if you need help.

Wild Weather Wednesday?

Not so much, but we'll take it. Sleep in, rest up, and get caught up where ever you may need to.   Don't forget your Khan Academy; perfect day to complete this week's topics.

Tuesday's Teaser: Extra Credit Opportunity

This teaser may look the same, but it's been changed since last week and is totally do-able. Multiplying fractions is easy; the rest is arithmetic.

But wait, there's more...

Since no one answered last week's question correctly, we're doubling the points for a correct answer this week.

Take five minutes out of your incredibly busy life to work this one out and score some much needed extra credit.  "You'll be glad you did."
