Class Summary: September 23, 2013
Today we are focusing on equations with fractions. Equations with one fraction are solved a bit differently than fractions with two or more fractions. We will cover both methods for solving and look at some of the more complex equations before tomorrow's test.
Our class work has only 8 problems, but they each take some time to work through. Remember, the test is on Tuesday, so it will benefit you to do all the practice problems and ask if you are unsure of anything. The class work can be found here.

Equations with Fractions Tutorial
If you need help remembering the rules to solving equations with fractions, the slideshow below does a great job of going through the different types of problems you may see.
Tuesday's test will have equations with fractions, so it wouldn't hurt to spend a few minutes reviewing before then.

Video Tutor: Help with Equations
If you're still having difficulty solving
equations, the following video works through problems with fractions,
variables on both sides, and multiple step equations. You do not have
to watch the video from start to finish. Choose the type or equation you are having trouble with and watch that part only, if you like.

Solving Equation Tuorial; PowerPoint Viewer
If you are having difficulty with any of the equations we have been working on, this tutorial is here to help you. It takes you step-by-step through many different types of equations. You can look through them all, or skip to the section you need to work on.
You can download the presentation and view it with PowerPoint. If you do not have PowerPoint on your computer, you can download a free program, PowerPoint Viewer which allows you to view, but not change any slideshows. Since you are not creating a slideshow, this is perfect for viewing the presentations.

Tuesday's Teaser
Every Tuesday, I will be posting a question (usually, but not always, involving math). The first five people to email me the correct answer receive 10 extra credit points. Here's this week's teaser:
Good Luck, remember to email your answers.

Lot's going on today as we begin our first full week of school. If you were absent or need to review the concepts covered today, please go through the slideshow below.
This week we will take a more detailed look at order of operations, various types of equations, and how they are used in real life situations. We also have a test on Wednesday, and your first Khan Academy mastery topics are due before next Sunday. Be committed to doing the best you can and always ask if you are unsure. Finally, the class work for today can be found here.

.... Khan Academy Schedule for September
Schedule of
September’s Mastery Practice Deadlines & Grading Procedures
Since the Khan
Academy Mastery Practice determines 20% of your grade, it is important that you
understand the test deadlines and how your grades are calculated.
Below you will
find a weekly list of topics to be completed before 7:00 pm on the date
given. All deadlines are on Sunday
evenings. Your grades will be determined as follows:
A:
Mastery achieved before deadline:
100% grade for that topic.
B:
Mastery not achieved by deadline:
Because the more you practice anything, the better you will become, you
will receive 3 points for each question you answer, correct or not. Your
maximum grade (if you answer 30 or more questions) will be 90%. If you were to answer 35 questions but not answer
5 in a row correctly, you will receive a grade of 90%. If you attempt to answer no questions, your
grade will be 0%. If you do 10 problems
and get 9 correct, your score will be 27%.
C:
Mastery must be achieved by the deadline, not after. You will always
know the assigned topics at least a week in advance, giving you sufficient time
to achieve mastery.
Here is the list of
Tests and their Deadlines for the Month of September:
